Morningside House is a 362-bed teaching nursing home with care provided by a skilled interdisciplinary team of professionals. Services include skilled nursing, Alzheimer and dementia care, as well as a superior sub-acute rehab program. Our relationships with area universities and hospitals enable us to provide a unique environment that provides better outcomes for patients and residents.

All residents at Morningside House have access to state-of-the-art equipment and are supported by an impressive staff of geriatric physicians, psychiatrists, licensed nurses, certified nursing assistants, occupational, physical and speech therapists, dieticians, social workers and chaplains. Residents at Morningside House enjoy a full day of activities and programming which may include guest speakers from around the world, musical entertainment, cooking demonstrations, adult education programs with an area professor, poetry and book club meetings, spiritual gatherings, and even spa-like aromatherapy and therapeutic treatments.

Realizing that it is sometimes the littlest of things that can make a world of difference, our staff researches ways to enhance the daily lives of our residents. Our ‘Bed Scape’ program, implemented in 2006, provides customized room curtains depicting full-scale colorful images such as shorelines, mountains or forest scenes that appeal to the resident. Personalizing care is one of the ways we tend to everyday matters.

Morningside House is also home to our rehabilitation therapy program. We understanding that the sooner and more often someone receives rehabilitative care, the sooner they can gain back their strength, self reliance and dignity. Therefore our experienced, licensed and certified staff provide physical and occupational rehab services seven days a week, up to two times each day and programs are designed around each patient’s level of ability and expectations. As should be the case with any rehab program, our goal is to improve the patient’s health and self-reliance and get them back home as quickly as possible. Once there, they have access to our other services such as home care, medical day care, transportation and meal services, if necessary.

Special Care
Morningside House’s experienced subacute care nurses provide expert wound care for those admitted with surgical wounds, pressure ulcers, or vascular ulcers. They also manage complex care modalities, including intravenous therapy, parenteral nutrition, and ostomy care.

Symptom management is a key goal of the nursing staff. Pain is assessed for every shift and all staff are sensitive to pain control approaches. Additionally, Morningside’s nurses have special training in managing the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation therapy for those being treated for cancer.

The Morningside philosophy of nursing care stresses skilled, competent care that is provided with sensitivity and concern.

Cultural Diversity
The staff at Morningside House is especially sensitive to the many cultures in and around the neighborhoods we serve. We take into consideration the unique needs of those in our care whether they are Jewish, Protestant, Catholic, Muslim, Spanish, Russian or of another background. We seek to hire those who are culturally competent and tap into their expertise when it comes to interacting with residents or planning and developing programs, holiday themes and events.
