Our Plans for 2010 Providing care for the frail elderly is becoming more and more challenging in these tough economic times. Despite the financial challenges, we are committed to providing the services most needed in our communities. In 2010 we will: · Complete renovations to our short term rehab unit. This project is funded under a grant from the New York State Department of Health under the Healthcare Efficiency and Affordability Law, or HEAL-NY, Phase 8. · Complete the “right-sizing” of our skilled nursing home. We are in the process of reducing 24 skilled nursing beds and increasing our Long Term Home Health Care Program capacity. The right-sizing will free up much needed space at the nursing home, provide additional private rooms and create a modern and beautiful environment on our short term rehab unit. · Plan for the conversion of additional skilled nursing facility beds into assisted living beds to better meet the needs of the community. Morningside House was recently awarded a grant under HEAL-NY Phase 12 to purchase the former D’Urso Pavilion of Our Lady Of Mercy Hospital and convert it into an assisted living program for 80 residents in the enriched housing model. The project would allow frail elders to live in an apartment setting with additional health care and supportive services provided as needed. · Continue to expand home care services. The Long Term Home Health Care Program of Morningside House will continue to grow through 2010 and is expected to serve nearly 400 clients in 2010. · Expand the reach of Morningside at Home, our Licensed Home Care Service Agency, throughout the Bronx serving a mix of private pay and home health agency clients. Flexible service plans are arranged to meet the clinical needs and budgets of our clients. · Create more opportunities for our neighbors to visit Morningside House. Programs include support groups for cancer survivors sponsored by Gilda’s Club, lecture series featuring speakers from the Social Security Administration and other agencies to help seniors make informed choices, and cultural/arts offerings throughout the year. |
