About Aging in America When Rev. Dr. Isaac Tuttle rented a room to a 'distressed' woman in a home near St. Luke’s Church in New York City in 1852, he understood that making life better for others happens one day at a time. When he later purchased the building and founded the St. Luke’s Home for Indigent Women, he did so with the goal of improving many lives and making every day matter for each one.
In the mid 1960’s St. Luke's merged with the Peabody Home to become Morningside House and in 1972 Morningside House opened Morningside House Nursing Home. The goal remained the same, to improve the lives of those most in need of assistance, and make every day matter.
In 1977 Aging in America was created to serve as the parent company for Morningside House and the other services being provided to the community. Today Aging in America oversees five subsidiaries with the common mission of devoting time, resources and skills to those who need it most in neighborhoods of the Bronx, Westchester, Rockland and Long Island.
The compassionate and skilled staff of Aging in America, and it subsidiaries, care for over 5,000 people annually with expanded services that include long term skilled nursing, rehabilitative therapies, Alzheimer and dementia care, home health services, social and medical model adult day health care, and an array of senior community services.
Our continuum of care is administered by experienced, dedicated professionals whose commitment to the individual is unequalled. The focus is on increasing self-esteem and self-reliance and enhancing each person’s sense of freedom and dignity. The competent and dedicated staff of Aging in America takes a team approach to finding solutions and serving the needs of those in our care, offering experienced guidance, extensive resources and soft shoulders to lean on.
So while our services have expanded and improved since 1852, we have never wavered from the goal established by Dr. Isaac Tuttle over 150 years ago—to brighten lives and make every day matter.
